Underbank is a response in parallel to Stockport’s Rediscovering the Underbank Townscape Heritage Scheme. The brief required a sensitive part adaption of a listed building within the Underbank Conservation area of Stockport, converting the underutilised lower ground floor into an intimate apartment.

The interior finishes celebrate a unassuming intimacy inherent within the cellar, placing focus on a tactile and course material pallet of exposed brick vaulted ceilings, clay plaster walls, a concrete floor and Douglas fir joinery.

Locked away under the bustling street above, filling up with new cafes, art shops and bars. The apartment serves as a quiet haven which opens up on to a small courtyard giving just enough spaces for a ‘secret garden’.
