Dormer House.
Dempsey + Gannon were commissioned to assist with adding valuable space to this characterful detached family home located within a leafy suburb of Stockport. Our clients loved their newly purchased home for its location and stunning features but the house needed to accommodate their growing family whilst also providing space for other visitors too.
Working closely with our clients we were able to establish a brief that envisaged a sensitive loft conversion to add a new habitable floor to the home. This new floor would accommodate two new, generous bedrooms along with a bathroom. It was critical that any additions to the house were respectful to its existing proportions and materiality.
This led to an intervention of three dormers positioned along the length of the roof to the rear of the house. The dormers were implemented alongside a subtle increase to the height of the eaves and ridge of the roof in order to carve out as much headroom as possible. The material palette consists of three carefully selected components: standing seam zinc, clay roof tiles and aluminium windows, all with a homogenous colour and tone to allow the roof and dormers to read as one architectural language.
