Community Clothing

Dempsey + Gannon Architects were commissioned by Community Clothing to design a flagship pop-up store for the launch of their ethically centred brand in Blackburn Lancashire. Conversation begun by understanding the ethos of Community Clothing which, is focused on training and job creation, optimisation of production in spare capacity between ‘seasons’, local supply chains and slow fashion.

Our design response was to reflect what we interpreted as an honest, raw and real fashion company. This led to a ‘stripped back’ aesthetic with the use of OSB boards, copper and mirrored glass. The layout of the shop was informed by placing emphasis on people passing by the shop, leading to displays and hangars being installed at a 45 degree angle to the frontage. storage and mirrors were positioned behind display boards to make optimum use of the space.
